Story on getting to the U.S.: I Followed my girlfriend over here, but always wanted to live here for a while.

Why did you want to work in the U.S.?

New York City is the mecca of the art world.

What are your creative inspirations?

Other artists — alive and dead — music, film and surfing.

What is your favorite city in the U.S., and what do you love about it?

New York. It’s got Moma, The Metropolitan Museum, the Whitney, The New Museum & P.S.1 museum, not to mention any of the commercial galleries.

What do you miss most about home?

Surfing in board shorts.

What is the greatest Australian landmark in your eyes?

The big prawn.

What is your favorite art gallery in Australia?

Roslyn Oxley9 Gallery in Sydney.

When you’re not working what can you be found doing?

Working [laugh]. Or surfing.

Who is your favorite American sports person?

[Pro surfer] Kelly Slater … amazing.

What is a quote you live by?

“Never not working.”

Do you have a mentor or hero?

My dad.

What did you want to be when you were 13?

A pro surfer.

What was your best skill/sport growing up?

Good 3-pointer in basketball.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Hopefully, still in New York.

Are you a dancer?

Only when drunk.

Do you have any good street art stories? Ever been busted by the cops?

No. It’s not a good idea if you have a temporary visa.

What are your tips to looking at and appreciating art?

Take your time with what you like, and move on with what you don’t like.

What motivates you to get up and get on with it?

Achieving my goals.
