Writers Marieke Hardy and Michaela McGuire have been running their literary salons for three years in Australia, and have now decided to hit New York in the name of reviving the long lost art of correspondence. The Women of Letters tour has already played to packed audiences in Los Angeles and Austin as part of SXSW.

Beyond specifically Australian productions, many Aussie actors have found success in their own right as big-name Hollywood stars. We take a look at several Australian actors now considered among the biggest names present on the festival’s carpets.
Australia Day at Central Park Summerstage
New York’s Central Park Summerstage plays host to a boutique festival of Australian indie music THIS SATURDAY August 18th 3pm-7pm. The event will feature Triple J Unearthed winners HUSKY, pop sensation SHEPPARD, the ethereal HIGH HIGHS, lyrics supremo GEORGE BYRNE (check his Billabout profile!), diva Maya Jupiter and DJ Ashley Feraude, with live art by Kid Zoom. Tropfest, the World’s Largest Short Film Festival Crosses the Pacific
Billabout caught up with Tropfest founder, John Polson, about the festival’s journey from Darlinghurst to Manhattan’s Bryant Park. “I’m looking at ways of combining the two cultures in a really fun way – I want to pack that park out. There is nothing like getting a picnic blanket and sitting in the park with a glass of wine to watch great films.”

The Aussie meat pie has made it to Times Square, New York! With Australia’s Pie Face chain opening their flagship American store on the 26th of January – Australia Day.
