Boy & Bear announce SXSW music festival dates

The SXSW music festival is almost upon us. Joining the lineup alongside more than 50 Aussie bands is Boy & Bear, who just booked four sets at Austin, TX’s music festival this March.

The folk rockers are coming off a busy couple of years since first hitting the radio waves Down Under with 2010’s debut EP, With Emperor Antarctica (101 Distribution), and nabbing Artist to Watch at the 2010 Rolling Stone Awards.

The SXSW shows are part of a plan that an official press release promises has Boy & Bear “poised to take America by storm.” The band’s full SXSW itinerary is listed below.

Led by Dave Hosking (lead vocals/guitars), the Sydney-based outfit also includes Killian Gavin (vocals/guitars), Tim Hart, (drums/vocals/guitars), Jake Tarasenko (vocals/bass) and Jon Hart (vocals/keys/mandolin), and has toured with Mumford & Sons, Laura Marling and fellow Aussies Angus & Julia Stone.

After SXSW, Boy & Bear is headed to the studio to record their debut full-length, set for release later this year. Joe Chiccarelli (The Shins, My Morning Jacket, The White Stripes) is slated to produce. Meanwhile, With Emperor Antarctica can be purchased at Amazon as an import CD for $15.93.

Early buzz on Boy & Bear has Rolling Stone describing “driving, urgent rhythms, snaking melodies, and harmonies that are smoke, not sugar” and Filter Magazine praising the band’s “robust vocal harmonies and layers of folk inspired guitar strums.”

But check out the video for their hot new single “Rabbit” below, and decide for yourself.
